I drove to Texas rather than flying this year. I never really liked the idea of audiobooks, but over the last year or so I have come to love them. I love them for long drives, and since I have decided that I am driving to Texas in December and back to Virginia in January, I have four long days on the road in my near future for which audiobooks would be much appreciated. I haven't posted since... *checks date*... 8 December. I flew home to Texas shortly after that and was there for about a month. I was busy working on the dissertation and applications when people were at work and hanging out with the family when they weren't, so I didn't spend much time on the computer. It's been over a month since I updated my LJ. There've been multiple times I've thought about updating, but I've never quite managed to do it. I think if I tell you about everything that happened in the past month, you'll have a pretty good idea of why I haven't updated.

My mom found out last week that she'd be having surgery on Monday. It was for carpal tunnel in her left arm, so not a major problem, but surgery is surgery and even the most minor can have complications (hers didn't but you don't know that ahead of time). After a year and a half of just working on my dissertation (and not getting anywhere), I have to work for my money this semester. I'm a Teaching Assistant for a Global History class. For this particular class, this means sitting through lectures every Monday and Wednesday and about 1/3 of the Fridays of the semester. The other 2/3 of the Fridays ( Read more... )
